The good part is that the cooking time is much shorter in comparison to the stove. You can use it for making perfect rice, delicious meats, and much more.

Instant Pot, because of its ease of cooking, has become one of the most popular kitchen gadgets in recent years. Once I started using it, it has become my favourite appliance in the kitchen.

There are some valid reasons that make the Instant Pot so popular for many people. One of the most important things for me is that it makes daily cooking so much easier and simpler.

  • After having an Instant Pot, I noticed I rarely use many of my appliances in my kitchen. It’s easier for me to just use the Instant Pot instead of them.

  • If you are living in a place like mine where electricity prices seem to be rising a lot, you should consider using an Instant Pot. It is much more energy efficient in comparison to an oven or induction.
  • Sometimes, with oven or stove cooking, food becomes chewy and dry. With an Instant Pot, all flavors are locked because the sealed design traps aroma and steam. In the end, you get perfect, juicy, tender, and moist meat.
  • With an Instant Pot, cooking is very easy. It comes with a pre-programmed mode. You just have to select the mode, and it will do the rest.
  • We all know how hard it is to prepare a healthy meal after work. An Instant Pot is a practical solution that saves time and effort.

How to Cook Rice in an Instant Pot

Since in this blog post we are comparing rice cookers and Instant Pot, I should share the recipe I personally use. Cooking rice in an Instant Pot is very easy; you just have to use the right ratios.

  • As always, first start by measuring the rice and rinsing it 3-4 times. Yeah, rinsing is important as it kinda removes excess starch.
  • The now ratio for water depends on the kind of rice you use. You can have a 1:1 ratio if using white rice, 1 cup water, and 1 cup rice. If you are using brown rice, use a 1:1½ ratio.
  • Put your rice and water in a pot. I also use 1 teaspoon of vinegar, which gives nice fluff. Close the lid and seat the release valve to seal.
  • Press the rice button, and it will start cooking.
  • After it finishes cooking, wait 10 minutes before opening the lid.

It has useful features and can work as pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, sauté pan, yogurt maker, and food warmer—all in one. I have used it to cook my everyday meals like lentil soup, chicken, rice and honestly it never disappointed me. I don’t have to manually set or adjust it. Its pre-programmed setting works perfectly every time.

Its very reliable and it even have option of delay cooking for up to 24 hours. This feature is perfect as I don’t have to worry about preparing anything after hard day at work.

Another thing I like about it is its option to choose between browning, simmering, and thickening while using sauté mode. This gives me good control over.

Instant Pot Duo 7-in-1 multi-Cooker is my fav. and saves a lot of time and efforts. Its fast reliable and comes with amazing, pre-programmed settings which are surprisingly accurate. I would highly recommend considering it. While a dedicated rice cooker might produce slightly better rice, the Duo’s versatility more than makes up for it. After using it for so long, I can confidently say it’s one of the best kitchen appliances I own. 

6-quart Instant Pot Lux Review

The earlier version from Instant Pot is the Instant Pot Lux, which is like their evergreen product. This one is still popular because it’s affordable, reliable, and simple to use. It’s one of the early versions that I got hooked on, and honestly, it’s enough for everyday casual cooking.

It doesn’t come with unnecessary buttons and works straightforwardly. You can use it as a pressure cooker, rice cooker, slow cooker, steamer, sauté pan, and food warmer. I’ve even boiled eggs in it along with my regular cooking of curry, meat stew, rice, and soups.

I like to bake occasionally, and for me, the newer version Lux V3 with the cake and egg program is a nice extra.

The brain of this pot uses a 3rd-generation microprocessor, which is important for consistent results. Just like the one above, it has a 24-hour delay cooking feature and an auto keep-warm feature for up to 10 hours. These features may sound unnecessary, but believe me, they help a lot on those busy days.

Its sturdy stainless steel inner pot is easy to clean, dishwasher-safe, and doesn’t get scratched easily. God knows how many times my little one has dropped it! You’ll also notice it doesn’t make much noise while cooking, which is such a relief.

Just like Japan has Zojirushi, South Korea has Cuckoo, another brand known for high-quality rice cookers. The Cuckoo CR-0631F is stylish, compact, and easy to use. It also comes with Fuzzy Logic technology, which helps cook rice evenly every time.

It’s fast, reliable, and perfect if you usually cook around 3–6 cups of rice. The pink design looks super cute and definitely adds charm to the kitchen. It has advanced features like Turbo Cook and Slow Cook. With turbo cooking, you can really save time when you’re in a rush.

It has an aluminum inner pot with a Teflon nonstick coating. Personally, I’m not a big fan of Teflon, but it does prevent rice from sticking to the bottom and makes cleaning easy. The flat base and curved sides help distribute heat evenly.

It’s also more versatile than it looks. It comes with a large, easy-to-read control panel. I tried cooking GABA rice, and I managed to cook it perfectly. Inside the box, you’ll find a measuring cup, a nonstick rice spatula, and a user manual.

Instant Pot vs. Rice Cooker – What’s the Difference?

Like everyone else, safety is the first thing I look for when buying anything for my kitchen. Both rice cookers and Instant Pots are safe, but if I have to choose one, it would be the Instant Pot. The visible steam valves give you a sense of security and full control. You can see and hear the steam release, which helps you decide when it’s safe to open the lid.

When I used it for the first time, I was a little anxious about the pressure build-up. But the way the lid locks securely and the steam releases automatically reassured me about its safety. Instant Pots are designed so that hot steam escapes safely before you open them.

On the other hand, rice cookers are generally safe too — you just need to be patient. Since they don’t have a pressure valve, it’s hard to tell if there’s still hot steam inside. The best rule is to wait about 10 minutes before opening the lid. This helps you avoid any unexpected burst of hot air.
