Best Garment Steamer Reviews (Updated)

1. Dodocool Steamer for Clothes

The Dodocool model is the best garment steamer and thus first in our list of recommendation. This model is a relatively inexpensive steamer fro clothes, but was nevertheless able to convince with good results. It sits comfortably in the hand, is equipped with an automatic switch-off function. It has a fairly decent capacity of 180 ml in conjunction with a 2.4 meter long cable, which makes handling easier.

The device is particularly suitable as a travel iron due to its compact size and ergonomic design combined with a relatively robust housing (in relation to the price).

The device is ready for use in around one minute and can be continuously used for around 12 minutes. This is absolutely sufficient for laundry on vacation or on a business trip.

It has anti-leakage design which prevents mist liquefaction. Overall, the model weighs around 660 grams and has compact ergonomic design.

Due to the small size of 226 x 226 x 153 mm, it fits perfectly into a hand luggage suitcase. You can efficiently use it for different fabrics, such as silk, cotton and other materials.

Unfortunately, you cannot control the steam precisely, because there is no switch for control steam release.

Nevertheless, If you are looking for a simple and inexpensive model on the go, which still does a good job and works reliably, you can choose this garment steamer.

2. AICOK Steam Iron, 1200W

The Aicok steamer convinced us in many ways. In contrast to many classic steam irons, the device also has a small smooth ironing surface, so that it can also be used as a handy travel steam iron.

Due to the high output of 1,200 watts, it heats up very quickly (within around 15 seconds) and can be used for up to 12 minutes at a time (6 minutes at the highest level) due to the large capacity of 130 ml.

The steam strength and heat can be regulated in two stages, which is also a great advantage if you want to smooth different types of clothing. Sensitive fabrics can be processed at a lower temperature.

The handling is very comfortable due to the ergonomic design in connection with the still very low weight of 950 grams. Due to the compact dimensions of 12.9*4.8*5.2 inches, it is also very suitable as a travel iron.

There is no problem even with more complicated items of clothing such as creases in trousers or suits, making it an everyday device at a fair price.

In terms of price, it is at the entry-level of the range. Merely the fact that it is certainly too large for hand luggage and because of the combo-construction does not optimally represent either of the two devices (iron and garment steamer) left room for criticism of the otherwise interesting and recommendable device.

3. Aicok Travel Garment Steamer

The simple but effective Steam Iron from Aicok convinced in the test with its good price-performance ratio. The device is built quite simply but ensures good overall results. It can be used for most fabrics without hesitation and the heating-up time of 85 seconds is still reasonable.

The water tank holds 110 ml, which is enough for about four to five items of clothing. The handle is comfortable to hold, but the steam output cannot be regulated.

Unfortunately, the device cannot be rotated either but must be used upright, otherwise, the tank may leak, so there is also a risk of burns. But if you follow the instructions and can live with the fact that the device is simple and therefore certainly not lasts forever, you will get a functional model at a fair price, which will bring good results.

However, the power of 700 watts is quite low, which is noticeable at a lower temperature. However, with 6.30*3.15*8.27 inches and a weight of around 570 grams, it is very light and handy. It is therefore very suitable for occasional use when traveling.

Buyers Guide

A Garment Steamer cannot replace the iron; it is rather intended as a kind of supplement to ironing. Steam brushes are very practical for traveling due to their small size.

A steam brush is also suitable for freshening up mattresses and upholstered furniture or for smoothing out curtains. To iron a wide variety of fabrics, most steam brushes have a level of control.

What is a garment steamer?

A garment steamer is also known as a steam brush or cloth steamer.

You can use a garment steamer to complement your iron.

For smoothness, it uses hot steam and the warm ceramic or metal plate. When you run the hot brush over clothes, the steam ensures that the fibers are smoothed. The gentle steam is a safe and efficient method for smoothing wrinkles from sensitive fabrics.

In contrast to ironing, gentle steam increases the life of the clothing. The steam loosens the fibers while ironing tends to crush the fibers.

In addition to removing wrinkles on clothing, the garment steamer is also suitable for cleaning mattresses or upholstered furniture.

Does the clothes steamer replace ironing?

A garment steamer in no way replaces the iron, but rather serves as a supplement. The steam brush can do things you shouldn’t do with an iron, such as steaming over sequins or ironing on prints of T-shirts.

Unfortunately, the fabrics are often not suitable for the hot iron soleplate, but the hot steam doesn’t bother them. The steam brush smoothes crumpled areas that are difficult to reach or difficult to iron with a regular ironing device.

Often curtains get wrinkles after washing, but their fabric is not suitable for regular iron. The steam brush is ideal for this kind of situation.

Does Clothes steamer have different heat levels?

Usually, clothes steamer has several steam levels for different kinds of materials.

You can also find a garment steamer with only one steam setting. It depends on the model and the manufacturer.

Steam is gentle and doesn’t put too much stress on clothing from the heat. Therefore, You can use them for the following type of garments:

  • shirts
  • curtains
  • Suits
  • Sequined garments
  • carpeting
  • sofas
  • bed linen
  • mattresses

Not only everyday fabrics such as cotton or denim are suitable for these devices but even sensitive fabrics such as:

  • silk
  • cotton
  • tulle
  • embroidery
  • sharpen
  • organza
  • Wool
  • taffeta

How big is the water tank?

The common models of a garment steamer have a quite small water tank volume, about 60 to 250 milliliters. There are also slightly larger models with a capacity of up to 2.5 liters.

The volume of the water tank depends on the steamer model.

What much a clothes steamer cost and weigh?

A normal clothes steamer without accessories weighs between 500 and 800 grams. The price varies depending on the functions, brand name, and additional accessories.

You can buy clothes steamer from just 30 dollars, with additional features and accessories the device can cost up to 350 dollars.

Additional accessories also cost accordingly. It is advisable to think about the extras before buying.

Reputable manufacturers of garment steamer

Some of the leading manufacturers for the clothes steamer are:

  • Rowenta
  • Phillips
  • Grundig
  • Tefal
  • Aicok

Always follow the operating instructions and keep the clothes steamer in the correct position during use. This prevents scalding and dripping water when using the device.

Factors to consider in Garment Steamer

It is crucial not to consider only the price when buying any product. Take some time to find the features and feedbacks of customers to avoid any surprises later.

You have to keep in mind that a Garment Steamer cannot completely replace an iron. The clothes steamer should rather be seen as a kind of addition to the conventional iron. You can use the following purchase criteria to find the right clothes steamer for you!

  • Power
  • Water tank capacity
  • Heating time
  • Additional attachments
  • Warranty
  • Weight

Power

The performance of the steam cleaner is specified in watts and indicates how powerful the device is.

However, one should not forget that sometimes lower-performing models work more efficiently than others.

Power and water tank volume are crucial to determine the operating time. The operating time of the device varies depending on the output and tank volume.

Water tank capacity

The size of the water tank plays a big role when buying a garment steamer. The average capacity is between 60 and 250 milliliters.

Sometimes water escapes during use. This does not harm the fabrics but leaves unsightly water stains. Therefore, it is important to close the water tank securely and tightly so that nothing can happen even in different positions.

The operating time depends on the size of the water tank and ranges from a few minutes to an hour.

Nevertheless, a good garment steamer should be ready for use quickly and then be able to be operated sufficiently long before it needs water again.

We recommend using distilled water to prevent calcification.

Heating time

The goal of most electronic devices is to save the user time. The clothes steamer is no exception, which is why the shortest possible heating time is desirable.

The average heating time for such devices is less than one minute, more precisely, the time is between 30 and 90 seconds.

Additional Attachments

To be able to use the garment steamer for mattresses and sofas, you may need additional attachments or accessories.

Different attachments and brushes help you to use the device for different materials. For example, you can also clean sofas or the like without the need for a special device.

Usually, manufacturers have numerous accessories on offer, which can simplify the handling of the steam brush.

When buying, it is best to choose a brush that has a suitable stand. You can adjust this stand to your size so that shirts and pants can be easily hung on it.

The steam straightener should also have a long cable so that you can work carefree.

You can also buy a lot of additional attachments, for example

  • Power controller
  • Valet Rod
  • Trouser press
  • Pocket clip
  • Brush
  • Glove
  • Accessories for better finishing for collar and shirt sleeves

Warranty

Steam cleaners have a long lifespan because of their simple construction. Nevertheless, you are not safe from technical defects.

For this reason, you should always clarify in advance how long the warranty period for the respective product is.

Basically (almost) all garment steamer has a warranty period. The warranty period is one to three years, depending on the manufacturer.

Weight

The weight of a garment steamer is not decisive as a purchase criterion, but in our opinion, it is not entirely unimportant.

Handling a clothes steamer is fairly simple because the models are usually quite small and light. In most cases, the weight of a steam brush is between 500 and 800 grams, i.e. less than a kilogram.

Storage is very easy because they take up little space.

Due to the lightweight and small size garment steamer are also ideal for your ironing need while traveling.
